Ebenezer Baptist Church Charlotte Haiti STM

A coed team from Ebenezer Baptist Church - Charlotte, NC embarked on a  week-long journey to Haiti on Saturday, February 21.   Their mission was to serve and minister to the people of Lambi Village. The team of 10 was led by Dr. Lorenzo Lynch, Rev. Walter Bowers and Sis. Juandra Burris.  Rev. Bowers provided the following outlined summary.  Pictures speak louder than words...

Sunday, February 22, 2015      

The team started the day in prayer and had breakfast at the Inspiration Guest House.

The team worshipped at St. Paul A.M.E with Pastor Francois and congregation.  We were able to witness baby dedication of two baby girls.

·         Tour of Haiti including museum and monuments

·         Group lunch at Grace International

·         Able to tour grounds following lunch including roof top view, orphanage/girl’s home, and school

·         Returned to Guesthouse

·         Group Dinner

 Monday, February 23, 2015

·         Prayer

·         Group Breakfast

·         Departed Guesthouse and traveled to Lambdi Village

·         Introductions of team and workers

·         Group Prayer

·         Split into groups

1.       One group helped to paint ceilings and walls of duplex in village

2.       Second group carried/hauled gravel and sand to specified location in order to build a bridge into the village

 ·         Group lunch in village

·         Afternoon empowerment sessions consisted of meeting with men, women, and children at Community/Activity Center

·         Split into three groups

1.       EBC women spoke with village women and provided their testimony.  They were also able to pray with the women of the village.

2.       EBC men spoke with village men regarding being a good husband, father, and man.

3.       EBC women worked with children of the village playing games and coloring.

 ·         Departed Lambdi Village and returned to Guesthouse

·         Nightly devotional led by Jackie Brown

·         Johnnie Juene from Grace International came and provided an orientation for EBC members/group (Presentation of Grace International organization)

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

·         Prayer

·         Group breakfast

·         Departed Guesthouse and traveled to Lambdi Village

·         Arrived at Lambdi Village and started day with a group prayer

·         Split into two groups

1.       One group carried/hauled stones to road in order to build bridge.  They also helped to mix concrete for the bridge and helped to pour concrete in order to build bridge.

2.       Second group painted the duplex.

 ·         Group lunch in village

·         Afternoon empowerment sessions consisted of splitting into three groups

1.       EBC women met with women of Lambdi Village.  Opened session with a devotional consisting of prayer and scripture by EBC women and song by Lambdi Village women “How Great Thou Art.”  The women of Lambdi village were able to share their story and made prayer requests.  Session ended with group prayer and individual prayer.

2.       EBC men spoke with men of Lambdi Village on the power of prayer.

3.       EBC women played with children of Lambdi Village.

 ·         Departed Lambdi Village and returned to Guesthouse

·         Nightly devotions led by Juandra Burris and Mary Kennedy

 Wednesday, February 25, 2015

·         Prayer

·         Group Breakfast

·         Departed Guesthouse for Lambdi Village

·         Arrived at Lambdi Village and started the day with prayer

·         The entire group worked together to carry/haul sand to pit area to prepare for cement

·         Group Lunch in village

·         Afternoon sessions-Split into several groups

1.       EBC men had session with men of Lambdi Village on  what is means to have a vision for your life and coming up with a plan to execute the vision. (Habakkuk 2:2)

2.       Some EBC women assisted women of Lambdi village with crocheting

3.       Some EBC women had empowerment session with women of Lambdi village on “Starting a Business” and their personal testimony.  Individual prayer was provided.  Devotion was done including prayer, scripture, and song.

4.       Some EBC women played with children of village.

5.       Some EBC women assisted with cleaning/organizing closet in Activity Center.

 ·         Departed Lambdi Village and traveled to Grace International to visit the sewing classroom.

·         Departed Grace International and traveled to Guesthouse

·         Nightly devotional led by Sandra Shank

·         Debriefing meeting after devotional to speak about concerns regarding Lambdi Village and what EBC can do currently and in the future to assist the village

1.       Activity center not being used to the fullest

2.       No chairs/tables in activity center

3.       Supplies, candy, clothing in storage room not being used/given out

4.       Men in village not being utilized to assist with various task in order to lower the burden on Johnnie Juene

5.       Older children who attend school could help teach other children in village who do not attend school in activity center

 ·         Ended debriefing with special prayer for Lambdi Village, Haiti, and leaders

·         Departed Guesthouse for Lambdi village

·         Arrived at Lambdi village by way of new bridge built by EBC team.

·         Group Prayer

·         Worked in activity center to set up store for families of the village to receive items from EBC (clothing, snacks, toiletries, pillowcase dresses)

·         Rev Bowers had a group session with men (special session with one man of the village who had domestic issues with “wife”)  Rev Bowers provided wisdom on being a better man, father, husband.

·         Families of the village were able to come into the center and receive items from EBC.

·         Children also came into center to receive pillowcase dresses (girls) and snacks (boys)

·         Group devotion at center.  Lambdi Village choir provided a song.  Group prayer.  EBC team provided a song

·         Group picture and EBC said their goodbyes to people of the village

·         Departed Lambdi village and traveled to the mountains of Haiti to be able to view the island.

·         Departed overlook location and traveled to Guesthouse

·         Group Dinner

·         Group Reflections:  Rev Bowers asked each group member to reflect on Lambdi village and the events of the week.  Each individual group member was able to reflect on their week and share their thoughts.

·         Following devotional, Mrs. Lynch suggested each individual group member say a prayer.   Ended  devotional with group prayer with everyone participating.

·         Traveled to Club Indigo Resort.  Had Group Lunch at resort.  Enjoyed an afternoon of beach time and relaxation.
